Welcome to Epochs of Fashion
I‘m Nina, an art historian with a doctoral degree based in Southwest Germany. I create and curate educational content for lovers of art, fashion, museums and cultural travel destinations.
I began studying history of art over a decade ago and have since earned a BA in European Art History and Archaeology, an MSc in Cultural Studies and a PhD in Art History from German and British universities. I am an experienced researcher and art communicator.
It is my firm belief that art and history should be accessible to everyone. My writing, my social media posts and the educational illustrations I make (especially for Instagram) reflects this by curating history knowledge for a wide audience. I take a learning-focused approach to how I select and present topics. The content on this website is in my native German and in English.
I started teaching myself how to sew when I was in my early teens to be able to make historical costumes and this inspired my long
love for dress history and textile crafts. The dresses I make are usually closely based on historical sources and I take them with me on my travels to present both the garments and the places I
visit in aesthetic and immersive ways.
I have spent years exploring art and history in Germany, the UK, and the world. I love to visit museums, historic houses and heritage sites, to
travel and to learn. My object is to discover and recommend hidden gems but also new angles on well-loved and popular spots.
The year of 2024 marked ten years since I started this website. More than a whole decade of history discoveries,
learning, sewing and educating now. What started out as a small website passion project has grown remarkably and the journey has continually kept inspiring me to sew, write, learn and create
educational content.
I work with cultural institutions and with brands to showcase projects, exhibitions, products and events.
I also love to recommend travel destinations, including historic hotels and exciting gastronomy. From curious facts to sources-based in-depth historical contexts, I value providing engaging knowledge about sites off the beaten path. Please reach out if you are interested in working with me to highlight your projects and locations.
I love to write for as well as partner with publications and institutions, sharing my expertise on the subjects of history, art, travel and sewing period dresses.
By careful research together with my own photography, videography and illustrations, I am able to provide thorough insights into these topics. I create a variety of social media content accompanied by high-quality engaging texts. Please reach out to me to discuss commissioning an article or to partner with me, writing to epochs-of-fashion[at]web.de.
I create digital illustrations with historical themes to entertain, engage and educate. These range from historical personas to costume and social history educative charts and to meme formats.
In my illustrative work, I can fully take your wishes and requirements on board and create original artworks to suit your brand, publication, museum or teaching plan. In the past, I have already contributed to exhibitions and had my work featured in a major London museum.
I am honoured to have been interviewed by Bild der Frau, Germany's highest-circulation women's magazine. Also, I have contributed to publications in the art and fashion history field.
Interested in working together or learning more about my content?
