Welcome and Willkommen to Epochs of Fashion - all things costume and dress history!
The year of 2024 marked ten years since I started this website. More than a whole decade of history discoveries, learning, sewing and educating now. What started out as a small website passion project has grown remarkably and the journey has continually kept inspiring me to sew, write, learn and create educational content. I am immensely grateful that so many of you - astonishingly many hundreds of thousands over the years - share these interests with me. Here's to the next fabulous decade of dress history with Epochs of Fashion and Style!
My name is Nina and I am an art historian. I am delighted that you are here and share the passion for history, dress and sewing. Can you believe this website has its ten year anniversary this year?
I started teaching myself how to sew when I was in my early teens to be able to make historical costumes and this inspired a long love for dress history and textile crafts. I also illustrate historical fashion and share these on Instagram. The content on this website is in my native German and in English. Discover resources, learn about fascinating people from the past, get sewing tips and have fun with history!
After Jane Austen Festival is before Jane Austen Festival!
The beautiful city of Bath beckons again this coming September for the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth!
I am already planning to sew a few new outfits for that. So far, I have always been incredibly lucky with sunny days during the festival but you never know as the British weather is notoriously unreliable...
I am aiming to make a Pelisse overcoat and at least one new hat!
